Amd has been working with console makers for many years now. You can find there processors in things such as the xbox one, ps4 and even the wii. Previously the company has hinted that they are working on multiple custom chips for gaming consoles. This information would line up with the for mentioned consoles. However, on Friday we got word that amd is also working on a third custom contract that they have said to be billions of dollars in sales.

Currently you can go and get game consoles such as the xbox one, ps4 and wii that feature amd chips with amd continually working with the companies that make the devices. However, Nintendo has announced that they are making the Nintendo nx console a few months back and now we have news that amd is working on a new processor. This sounds like a no brainer, Nintendo and amd work together and both companies have launched new products but there is a major hurdle in all this, and that is the wiii u supports a power pc based chip. The chip that is running here is quite out dated, based on an x86 platform and in the performance department not comparable to the offerings from the xbox and the ps4. At this point, a switch in processors would be very hard for them to keep their large back library, resulting in them needing to implement some type of emulation chip that could be quite costly.

With only bits and pieces of rumors, it is only a matter of time before we get some more solid information to go with
